While the Christmas holiday season has always been special and dear to my heart, my favorite time of year is Easter.

Perhaps it’s the beauty of our church service, filled with the Easter lilies, which never fail to trigger my allergies. Growing up, our church was always filled to the brim, ladies decked out in their finest along with the obligatory bonnets and the gentlemen looking like, well, gentlemen. Something about the Easter egg hunts, the decorations and the celebration of Easter joy made it my favorite holiday.

It wasn’t until I moved up north that I truly understood the profound experience that is spring; being deprived of sun for months, the lack of vitamin D, the terrain dark and dank. Then came the first yellow bloom of the forsythia; what joy and anticipation that brought to my heart. A new beginning.

This year, Easter falls in April and Orlando magazine has a delightful story by Cynthia Van Gaasbeck, “Easter Brunches and Buffets in Orlando,” for ideas on where to feast this Easter. Keep reading for Cynthia’s “Easter Brunch with Aunt Lois,” a heartfelt tribute to family and the importance of childhood memories.

In this issue, we have many events that will get you out of the house and into the sunshine. From the 18th annual Central Florida Earth Day held at Lake Eola to our “Top Ten Free (or Almost-Free) Things to Do in Central Florida.” Be sure to read our annual guide to the Best Lawyers in Central Florida.

Check out Orlando magazine’s “Explore the Ultimate Florida Lighthouse Trail” for a unique way to discover or rediscover the Sunshine State. And don’t miss Michael McLeod’s “Want to Hear Another ‘Florida Man’ Story?” a compelling look at the film industry in Central Florida.

Do yourself a favor and immerse yourself in everything Orlando has to offer.

As Pablo Neruda once said, “You can cut all the flowers but you cannot keep spring from coming.”
