City Works Eatery and Pour House at Disney Springs

One of the many pleasures of living in Orlando is the proximity to the theme parks for a quick getaway.

While it may be cost-prohibitive to go to EPCOT, SeaWorld, or Universal Studios, Disney Springs is a rare, free option for a quick pop to the parks for some relaxing fun.

A true gem at Disney Springs is a visit to City Works Eatery and Pour House. With a name like “Pour House,” you expect a massive selection of beer on tap; City Works does not disappoint. With over 90 craft beers and plenty of space for quality sports viewing, we were in a Rolling-Stones-Mick-Jagger mood and went with the IPA “McStagger.” Just like Jumpin’ Jack Flash himself, with a clink of our glasses, the delectable ale went down like the proverbial “Brown Sugar.”

The City Works menu offers much more than your usual sports bar fare. Our server recommended the Duck Nachos made with pulled confit duck, pepper jack cheese sauce, pickled jalapenos, smoked tomatoes, red onion, white beans, avocado, micro cilantro, queso fresco, and lighter-than-a-duck’s-feather chips made with wontons. Two words: “More, please.”

We could have easily filled up on the nachos, but the afternoon rain made us decide to sit for a spell, and we ordered dinner. You can’t go wrong with a good Carolina Fried Chicken Sandwich, buttermilk breaded crispy chicken breast, spicy bread and butter pickles, Carolina mustard BBQ sauce, and shredded iceberg on a brioche bun.

We also splurged on the perfectly cooked chipotle maple glazed, bone-in center cut pork chop with potato puree, cinnamon spiced apples, and crispy buttermilk onion rings. We topped it off with the Peanut Butter Snickers Pie, two spoons and a fine cup of joe.

The service was friendly, fast, and well-timed to the Florida afternoon thunderstorm. We left the restaurant just as the pedestrians put away their umbrellas; the humidity lowered enough for a brisk walk around Disney Springs. What a relaxing way to spend a Wednesday afternoon in paradise.
