Get in the Swing

Women's Golf Day wants YOU on the green.

Okay, so you think you’re not a golfer. You don’t golf. But have you ever tried it? Maybe you don’t realize how nice it is to be outdoors, unplugged from your daily demands, having fun with friends in a relaxed, playful setting. The satisfaction of hearing that thwack as your club connects with the ball. You are exactly the person for whom Women’s Golf Day was designed.

If you are a woman or a girl and have even the slightest interest in stepping foot on the green, then Tuesday, June 6th is your ticket to drive.

Heading into its second year, Women’s Golf Day will host events in 672 locations in 46 countries —growth beyond the organizers’ wildest dreams. With its abundance of golf resorts and country clubs, Central Florida is a great place to be if you are a woman (or a girl!) and want to try golf in a fun, non-intimidating atmosphere. There are already more than 30,000 people signed up at events around the world. Lucky for us, there are several right here in our own backyard.

Participating locations have the freedom to design their event anyway they wish, as long as they offer two hours of instruction or play and two hours of social interaction and education. Women can register for events being hosted at country clubs, public courses and golf resorts. Locally the cost ranges from free to $30.

Golf professional Kevin Baker from Reunion Resort hopes their event will help eliminate what he calls the “intimidation factor.” Says Baker, “People don’t want to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, or wonder if they are dressed correctly. We want to help people feel comfortable with it and have a routine.” Asked what one piece of advice he’d give women who have never golfed, Baker replied, “Ask questions. There are no stupid questions and golf professionals are trained to answer them all.”

Women can explore events being offered at womensgolfday.com, then click “sign up to play,” which loads an interactive map. Each event is unique and while online registration is encouraged, we recommend that you call the golf club in advance to double check their program’s details.
